Protecting What You’ve Built

Loving Your Spouse When You Feel Like Walking Away

Day 19 of 21 · Wednesday 29 April 2026

By Sharlene Findley-Stewart · 1 minute read

Scripture reading

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”

1 Peter 5:8, KJV

Teaching lesson

What is built must also be protected.

A couple once worked hard to rebuild their relationship, but slowly began drifting apart again.

Not because of conflict, but because of distractions, such as:

Work demands

Phones and technology

External pressures

They didn’t lose their connection overnight; it faded gradually.

It is important to protect the relationship from external stressors that can weaken it.

Strong marriages are not just built intentionally; they are guarded intentionally.

Protection means:

Setting boundaries

Managing time wisely

Being aware of drift

What we fail to protect, we eventually weaken.

Together

Your challenge

Identify one distraction that needs to be limited to protect your marriage.

On your own

To reflect on

  • What is currently pulling attention away from my marriage?
  • Am I intentional about protecting our connection?

Prayer focus

“Pray for wisdom to guard your marriage from distractions.”

With love and prayer,Sharlene
