Building a Legacy Together

Shared Vision and Shared Goals

Day 7 of 21 · Saturday 12 September 2026

Scripture reading

“One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.”

Psalm 145:4, KJV

Teaching lesson

They had thought about what they wanted to accomplish.

They had spoken about a home, financial stability, travel, work, and the experiences they hoped to enjoy.

But they had rarely asked what their life together would leave behind.

Legacy can sound like something reserved for later years or public achievement.

In reality, it is formed through the repeated choices of ordinary marriage.

Psalm 145 describes one generation praising God's works to another.

Faith and wisdom are carried forward when people speak of God's faithfulness and live in ways that make His work visible.

Every married couple influence someone.

The influence may reach children, relatives, friends, neighbours, a church community, younger couples, or people who simply observe how they honour one another.

A meaningful legacy therefore does not depend on having children.

It grows wherever a marriage becomes a faithful witness through love, service, truth, generosity, courage, and repentance.

Ask what you want people to learn from the way you live together.

Will they see two people who protect appearances, or two people who know how to apologise and repair? Will they see private ambition, or a partnership willing to serve?

Legacy does not require perfection.

Honest growth often teaches more than a carefully managed image.

The way you face disappointment, welcome others, handle money, keep promises, practise faith, and speak about each other is already telling a story.

Choose that story with intention.

Some seasons will allow you to invest widely. Other seasons may narrow your energy to caring faithfully for one another and the few people nearest to you.

Both can honour God.

Build a marriage whose direction blesses the present and leaves behind evidence that God's grace was welcomed, practised, and shared.

Together

Your challenge

Discuss this question: "What do we want our marriage to teach the people whose lives touch ours?" Choose one legacy value and one action that will express it this month.

On your own

To reflect on

  • What lessons are my present habits teaching others about love, commitment, faith, and the way a husband or wife should be treated?

Prayer focus

“Father, let our marriage tell the truth about Your faithfulness and grace. Help us build a legacy of love, humility, service, and steady commitment. Use our life together to bless the people around us and those who come after us. In Jesus' name, Amen.”
