Making Admiration a Daily Choice

Liking, Appreciating and Enjoying Your Spouse
Day 15 of 21 · Sunday 30 August 2026
Scripture reading
“Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.”
Proverbs 31:28, KJV
Teaching lesson
She admired many things about her husband.
His steadiness helped the family feel secure. His humour softened difficult days, and his willingness to serve rarely depended on being noticed.
But most of her admiration remained unspoken.
He also valued her wisdom, courage, and care. Yet he assumed that years of commitment had already communicated what he felt.
Both spouses were admired.
Neither consistently heard it.
Proverbs describes a husband who praises his wife. His admiration does not remain a private conclusion. It becomes a spoken blessing.
Admiration is more than recognising that your spouse has good qualities. It is choosing to keep those qualities visible within the relationship.
Marriage naturally exposes weakness. You see each other's tiredness, mistakes, unfinished growth, and ordinary limitations. Without intention, these familiar imperfections can receive more attention than years of faithfulness.
Daily admiration corrects that imbalance.
It notices what is worthy and gives it a voice.
You do not need a dramatic occasion. Tell your spouse that you admire the way they remained patient, handled pressure, cared for someone, told the truth, kept a promise, or began again after disappointment.
Be sincere and specific.
Admiration should never be used to flatter, control, or avoid an honest concern. It also doesn't require calling harmful behaviour good. Truth and wisdom still matter.
But ordinary frustrations should not silence every honourable word.
A culture forms from what happens repeatedly. If criticism is repeated, the marriage becomes watchful. If sincere admiration is repeated, both spouses are reminded that goodness is still being seen.
Do not wait until a birthday, anniversary, or public tribute to say what is valuable.
Make admiration part of your marriage's daily language.
Let warm, truthful words become a dependable part of companionship.
Together
Your challenge
Before the day ends, name one quality you genuinely admire in your spouse. Connect it to a recent moment, so your words are personal and believable.
On your own
To reflect on
- What admirable quality in my spouse have I recognised privately but rarely expressed aloud?
Prayer focus
“Father, train our eyes to notice what is worthy and our mouths to speak it with sincerity. Keep familiarity from silencing gratitude, and make admiration a daily blessing within our marriage. In Jesus' name, Amen.”
