Shared Vision and Shared Goals · Day 21 of 21

Praying Over Your Future Together

By Sharlene Findley-Stewart · Saturday 26 September 2026 · 3 minute read

A plan rolled and tied with twine beside an open Bible on a cleared teak table.

Scripture reading

“And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.”

Psalm 90:17, KJV

Teaching lesson

After many conversations, a couple had written down the direction they hoped to pursue.

Their goals included spiritual growth, wise stewardship, meaningful relationships, useful work, and a household marked by peace and generosity.

The page felt hopeful, but it also reminded them how much remained beyond their control.

So, they placed their hands over the plan and prayed.

Psalm 90 does not ask God merely to bless human ambition. It asks for His beauty to rest upon His people and for Him to establish the work of their hands.

That prayer puts the future in its proper order.

You may plan carefully, but only God sees every season, interruption, opportunity, and need that lies ahead.

Praying over your future together is an act of unity and surrender.

It allows both spouses to voice hopes without pretending certainty. It also gives you space to release fears, ask for wisdom, and invite God to correct any desire that would lead you away from Him or from each other.

Pray about more than outcomes.

Ask God to shape the kind of people you will become while pursuing them: faithful, humble, courageous, generous, patient, and attentive to His voice.

Pray for your marriage to remain more important than the image of success.

Pray for your home to bless the people God places within its reach. Whether or not your household includes children, ask Him to form a legacy of faith, welcome, service, and love through your life together.

Name the decisions you can already see, then entrust the unknown ones to God's care.

You do not need eloquent words. Honest agreement before the Lord is enough.

Return to this prayer as plans develop and seasons change.

A shared vision is safest when it remains open to God's direction.

May He place His beauty upon your marriage, establish the work that honours Him, and keep you walking toward the future hand in hand.

Put it into practice

Together

Your challenge

Read your shared vision or current goals aloud. Place your hands over them and pray together, surrendering the outcomes and asking God to establish only what honours Him.

On your own

To reflect on

  • Am I asking God merely to approve our plans, or am I genuinely willing for Him to redirect our future?

Prayer focus

“Father, let Your beauty rest upon our marriage. Establish the work of our hands that honours You, redirect what does not, and keep us united through every unknown season. May our life together leave a legacy of faith, welcome, service, and love. In Jesus' name, Amen.”
