Redefining Roles and Expectations
Loving Your Spouse When You Feel Like Walking Away
Day 14 of 21 · Friday 24 April 2026
Scripture reading
“Let all things be done decently and in order.”
1 Corinthians 14:40, KJV
Teaching lesson
Unspoken expectations often lead to frustration.
A wife once felt overwhelmed managing the home and children, while her husband believed he was fulfilling his role by working and providing.
Neither was wrong. But neither had clearly discussed expectations.
The result?
Resentment
Misunderstanding
Emotional distance
It is important to know that an imbalance in responsibilities often creates tension, and roles must be intentionally discussed and adjusted.
Many couples assume:“You should know what I need.”
But expectations that are not communicated cannot be fulfilled.
Healthy marriages require:
Clarity
Flexibility
Teamwork
Roles are not fixed; they evolve with seasons as:
Work changes
Children grow
Responsibilities shift
When couples adjust together, they grow stronger.
Together
Your challenge
Discuss one responsibility that needs to be adjusted or shared differently.
On your own
To reflect on
- What expectations have I not clearly communicated?
- Am I flexible as our lives change?
Prayer focus
“Pray for wisdom, balance, and fairness in your roles.”
