Repairing the Small Breakdowns
Loving Your Spouse When You Feel Like Walking Away
Day 13 of 21 · Thursday 23 April 2026
Scripture reading
“Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.”
Song of Solomon 2:15, KJV
Teaching lesson
Most marriages are not destroyed by one major event, they are weakened by small, repeated breakdowns.
A couple once said, “We don’t have big fights… just constant tension.”
When explored further, the tension came from small daily issues:
Tone of voice
Lack of appreciation
Interruptions
Unfinished conversations
Each moment seemed insignificant on its own but together, they created emotional distance.
It should be noted, small issues, if ignored, grow into larger problems.
Think of it like this:
A small crack in a wall may not seem serious. But over time, if left unattended, it spreads.
Healthy marriages repair quickly:
Apologising early
Addressing issues before they grow
Choosing humility over pride
The strength of a marriage is not the absence of problems but the willingness to repair them.
Together
Your challenge
Address one small unresolved issue today and resolve it calmly.
On your own
To reflect on
- What small issues have I been ignoring?
- Do I repair quickly, or allow things to build up?
Prayer focus
“Pray for humility and willingness to address issues early.”
