Intentional Love · Day 9 of 21
Small Actions That Make Love Visible

Scripture reading
“He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.”
Luke 16:10, KJV
Teaching lesson
Beside the front door, she found the item she had nearly forgotten. Her husband had placed it where she would see it before leaving. It was a small thing, but it told her that he had remembered what mattered to her that morning.
Some expressions of love are quiet enough to pass unnoticed by everyone else.
Within a marriage, however, a thoughtful action can say a great deal. It can communicate, 'I heard you. I remembered. What matters to you matters to me.'
In Luke's Gospel, Jesus speaks about faithfulness in small matters as part of His teaching about stewardship and the use of wealth. He calls His hearers to take seriously what has been entrusted to them, even when it seems little.
That principle also invites us to consider how faithfully we care for the everyday opportunities within marriage.
A promise to send an update when plans change may seem minor. Keeping it can spare your spouse unnecessary uncertainty. Remembering to ask about something important can show that yesterday's conversation stayed with you.
The value of the action is not measured by its cost or by how impressive it looks. Its meaning often comes from the attention behind it.
Look for a gesture that fits your spouse's actual day. What have they mentioned? What do you already know they appreciate? Let that knowledge guide you rather than choosing something simply because you would enjoy receiving it.
Offer the kindness without demanding a particular reaction. Your spouse may be distracted when they receive it. You can communicate what you intended without turning the moment into a test of gratitude.
Small gestures also belong alongside the larger responsibilities of marriage. A thoughtful surprise is most meaningful when it accompanies honesty and dependable care.
Today, consider one ordinary opportunity you might otherwise overlook. Ask God to help you respond faithfully. The action may take only a moment, but it can give your spouse a clear experience of being remembered.
Put it into practice
Together
Your challenge
Each choose one small action based on something your spouse has recently mentioned. Carry it out today, without spending money or expecting a gesture in return.
On your own
To reflect on
- What has my spouse mentioned recently that I could respond to with a thoughtful action?
Prayer focus
“Heavenly Father, help us to be faithful in the small opportunities You give us. Sharpen our attention to each other's daily needs. Let our thoughtful actions come from sincere love, and teach us to offer care without keeping score or seeking praise. In Jesus' name, Amen.”
