Guarding the Peace in Our Home

Praying with Love

Day 6 of 21 · Thursday 28 May 2026

Scripture reading

“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.”

Colossians 3:15, KJV

Teaching lesson

The house looked normal.

The dishes were there.

The laundry was there.

The children’s things were there.

The television was on.

The phones were nearby.

But peace was missing.

No shouting.

No big argument.

Just tension.

Short answers.

Quiet distance.

A heaviness that both could feel.

Sometimes peace leaves the home quietly.

Through unresolved hurt.

Through repeated irritation.

Through busyness.

Through stress.

Through silence that lasts too long.

Through words that were never repaired.

Marriage needs peace.

Not the kind of peace that avoids hard conversations.

Not the kind that pretends everything is fine.

But the kind of peace that welcomes God into the atmosphere of the home.

Peace that says,“We will not let anger rule here.”

“We will not let pride live here.”

“We will not let the enemy use small things to divide us.”

“We will choose prayer before distance grows.”

Every home has pressure.

Bills.

Work.

Children.

Family responsibilities.

Church commitments.

Unexpected problems.

But pressure does not have to control the spirit of the home.

When husband and wife begin to guard the peace together, the home feels different.

There is more gentleness.

More patience.

More understanding.

More willingness to repair.

Peace does not mean there will never be conflict.

It means love is protected even when conflict comes.

It means both hearts keep returning to God.

And when God’s peace rules in the home, even difficult days can be handled with grace.

Together

Your challenge

Before the day ends, take one minute to pray over your home together. Ask God to fill it with peace.

On your own

To reflect on

  • Am I helping to protect the peace in our home, or am I adding to the tension?

Prayer focus

“Lord, let Your peace rule in our hearts and in our home. Remove tension, pride, anger, and anything that creates distance between us. Teach us to protect the atmosphere of our marriage with love, prayer, and grace. Amen.”
