Praying for Wisdom in Decisions

Praying with Love

Day 13 of 21 · Thursday 4 June 2026

Scripture reading

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”

James 1:5, KJV

Teaching lesson

They had a decision to make.

Not a simple one.

There were bills to consider.

Family needs.

Work pressure.

Children.

Timing.

Feelings.

Fear.

And both had different thoughts about what should happen next.

One wanted to move quickly.

The other wanted to wait.

One saw opportunity.

The other saw risk.

One felt excited.

The other felt anxious.

Sometimes decisions test the unity of a marriage.

Not because anyone is wrong.

But because husband and wife may see things differently.

Different backgrounds.

Different fears.

Different personalities.

Different ways of processing pressure.

That is why wisdom is so important.

Marriage does not only need love.

It needs discernment.

It needs patience.

It needs prayer.

It needs the humility to say,“Let us seek God before we decide.”

When couples make decisions without prayer, pressure can take over.

Fear can take over.

Pride can take over.

Other people’s opinions can take over.

But when husband and wife pause to ask God for wisdom, they are reminded that they do not have to carry the decision alone.

God cares about the big decisions.

And the small ones.

The money decisions.

The parenting decisions.

The work decisions.

The family decisions.

The ministry decisions.

The decisions about timing, priorities, and direction.

Sometimes wisdom comes as peace.

Sometimes as caution.

Sometimes as counsel.

Sometimes as patience.

Sometimes as a closed door.

Sometimes as a quiet agreement that grows after prayer.

A marriage becomes stronger when decisions are not made by pressure, anger, or control, but by prayerful unity.

Because it is not only about choosing the right thing.

It is about choosing together with God.

Together

Your challenge

Choose one decision you are facing and pray about it together before discussing the next step.

On your own

To reflect on

  • Do I seek God’s wisdom in our decisions, or do I depend mostly on my own opinion?

Prayer focus

“Lord, give us wisdom for every decision we must make. Help us to listen to You and to each other. Remove fear, pride, confusion, and pressure, and guide us into peace and unity. Amen.”
