When Finances Test Our Unity

Praying with Love

Day 14 of 21 · Friday 5 June 2026

Scripture reading

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:19, KJV

Teaching lesson

They both wanted the home to be okay.

But money kept creating tension.

One was thinking about savings.

The other was thinking about needs.

One was concerned about spending.

The other felt controlled.

One wanted to talk.

The other felt overwhelmed.

And sometimes the conversation about money became a conversation about trust.

Finances can test a marriage.

Not only because of how much there is.

But because of what money represents.

Security.

Fear.

Freedom.

Responsibility.

Pressure.

Childhood memories.

Past mistakes.

Future dreams.

Sometimes couples are not only arguing about dollars.

They are wrestling with fear.

Fear of not having enough.

Fear of being judged.

Fear of losing control.

Fear of repeating what they saw growing up.

Fear of disappointing the family.

But God invites couples to bring their finances under His care.

Not with shame.

Not with blame.

But with honesty.

Money conversations need grace.

They need patience.

They need transparency.

They need a shared heart that says,“We are on the same side.”

Financial unity does not mean both persons will always think the same way.

It means both are willing to seek God’s wisdom together.

To plan together.

To be honest together.

To sacrifice together.

To trust God together.

Sometimes this means creating a budget.

Sometimes it means adjusting expectations.

Sometimes it means asking for help.

Sometimes it means repenting for secrecy, waste, control, or fear.

But always, it means remembering that provision comes from God.

A marriage becomes stronger when money is no longer used as a weapon.

Not to control.

Not to accuse.

Not to hide.

Not to prove a point.

But to steward faithfully together.

Because when finances test unity, prayer helps remind us that God is still our Provider.

Together

Your challenge

Have one calm money conversation today. Choose one area where you can work together better financially.

On your own

To reflect on

  • Do my attitudes about money bring peace, fear, control, or tension into our marriage?

Prayer focus

“Lord, help us to honour You with our finances. Teach us to be honest, wise, disciplined, and united. Remove fear, secrecy, blame, and tension, and help us trust You as our Provider. Amen.”
