Supporting Each Other’s Purpose

Praying with Love

Day 18 of 21 · Tuesday 9 June 2026

Scripture reading

“Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.”

Ecclesiastes 4:9, KJV

Teaching lesson

They both had dreams.

Some spoken often.

Some kept quietly in the heart.

Some were delayed.

Some changed with time.

Some were placed on hold because life became busy.

Work.

Children.

Bills.

Ministry.

Family responsibilities.

Survival.

And somewhere along the way, purpose became something they carried separately.

Sometimes in marriage, we forget that our spouse is still becoming.

Still growing.

Still carrying gifts.

Still needing encouragement.

Still needing someone to believe in them.

Marriage should not bury purpose.

It should help nurture it.

A husband needs to know that his wife sees the call of God on his life.

A wife needs to know that her husband honours the gifts God has placed in her.

Both need prayer.

Both need encouragement.

Both need support.

Not competition.

Not jealousy.

Not control.

Not indifference.

But the kind of love that says,“I want to see you become who God created you to be.”

Supporting each other’s purpose does not mean every dream happens at once.

It does not mean the family is neglected.

It does not mean one person’s calling matters more than the other’s.

It means husband and wife prayerfully ask,“How can we help each other obey God well?”

Sometimes support looks like listening.

Sometimes it looks like making room in the schedule.

Sometimes it looks like speaking encouragement.

Sometimes it looks like helping with practical things.

Sometimes it looks like praying when your spouse feels discouraged.

Purpose grows better in an atmosphere of honour.

A marriage becomes stronger when both persons feel seen, valued, and supported.

Because God did not only join two lives.

He joined two journeys.

And when husband and wife walk with God together, purpose becomes something they help each other carry.

Together

Your challenge

Ask your spouse, “What is one dream, gift, or assignment you need more support with right now?”

On your own

To reflect on

  • Do I encourage my spouse’s purpose, or do I unintentionally make it harder for them to grow?

Prayer focus

“Lord, help us to support each other’s purpose with love, wisdom, and humility. Show us how to encourage the gifts You have placed in each other and help us walk together in obedience to You. Amen.”
