Maintaining Growth Over Time
Loving Your Spouse When You Feel Like Walking Away
Day 18 of 21 · Tuesday 28 April 2026
Scripture reading
“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”
2 Peter 3:18, KJV
Teaching lesson
Healthy marriages don’t just grow; they are maintained.
A couple once said, “Things got better… but then we slipped back into old habits.”
This is common.
Growth requires:
Consistency
Intentional effort
Ongoing attention
For your marriage to be successful, you are reminded that each growth step builds on the previous one and must be sustained.
Without maintenance:
Communication weakens
Connection fades
Old patterns return
Think of marriage like a garden.
If it is not watered, nurtured, and maintained, it does not stay the same; it declines.
Growth is not a one-time breakthrough.It is a lifestyle.
Together
Your challenge
Choose one habit (communication, time together, check-ins) to maintain consistently.
On your own
To reflect on
- What positive change have I not maintained?
- What habit will I commit to sustaining?
Prayer focus
“Pray for discipline and consistency in nurturing your marriage.”
