Celebrating Shared Wins

Scripture reading

“The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.”

Psalm 126:3, KJV

Teaching lesson

One couple moved quickly from one goal to the next.

They reduced debt, created a healthier weekly rhythm, and learned to handle one recurring disagreement with greater kindness. Yet each achievement was followed almost immediately by another task.

They were making progress, but they were not allowing themselves to feel it.

Psalm 126 pauses to acknowledge what the Lord has done and responds with gladness.

Celebration is not pride. It is grateful attention.

When couples celebrate shared wins, they recognise God's help, honour each other's contribution, and strengthen the belief that their partnership can bear good fruit.

Do not reserve celebrations for dramatic milestones.

A kept commitment, a month of wiser choices, a courageous conversation, a completed project, a welcoming home, or a renewed habit of prayer may deserve to be named.

Some wins are visible only to the two of you. That does not make them small.

Resist comparing your progress with another couple's timeline. Comparison can turn gratitude into embarrassment or make a faithful step feel insignificant.

Celebrate what God is doing in your marriage and season instead of measuring it against someone else's story.

Your celebration does not need to be expensive. Share a favourite meal, take a walk, write a note, revisit the story of what changed, or pray a joyful prayer of thanks.

Be specific about your spouse's part. Say what their patience, courage, sacrifice, creativity, or consistency contributed to the result.

Celebration also creates a shared remembrance of God's kindness.

When a future season feels difficult, remembered wins become evidence that God has helped you before and that growth is possible again.

Let gladness have a place in your shared vision.

Pause long enough to say, “The Lord hath done great things for us,” and enjoy the gift of having reached this point together.

Put it into practice

Together

Your challenge

Choose one shared win from the past year and celebrate it today in a simple, meaningful way. Thank God together and tell your spouse what you appreciated about their contribution.

On your own

To reflect on

  • Do I move past our progress too quickly, or do I make room to notice, thank God, and celebrate with my spouse?

Prayer focus

“Father, thank You for every evidence of grace and growth in our marriage. Teach us to celebrate without comparison, to honour each other's contribution, and to remember Your faithfulness with glad hearts. In Jesus' name, Amen.”
