Intentional Love · Day 15 of 21
Offering Care When You Are Tired

Scripture reading
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
Galatians 6:9, KJV
Teaching lesson
By the time they sat down, both were tired. She wanted to tell him about her day, but he could hardly keep his eyes open. His short reply sounded uncaring. Her disappointed silence left him feeling that whatever he offered would not be enough.
Tiredness can make it difficult to express the love we still feel.
Paul encourages the Galatians to continue doing good without losing heart. In the surrounding passage, he speaks about sowing to the Spirit and taking opportunities to care for others. His encouragement calls us to faithfulness, rather than promising an immediate result for every effort.
In marriage, continuing to do good includes learning how to offer care within our real limits.
You may not have the energy for a long conversation tonight. You can still acknowledge your spouse kindly: 'I want to hear you properly. I am struggling to stay awake. Could we talk after breakfast?' Keeping that arrangement gives your words meaning.
Sometimes care is a small act that helps both of you rest. You might simplify the evening together, share a remaining task or agree that something can wait until tomorrow.
Be honest about what you can manage. Promising more than you have strength to give can leave both of you disappointed. A clear, gentle explanation allows your spouse to understand what is happening instead of having to guess.
Receiving care matters too. If your spouse offers help, allow yourself to accept it without feeling that you must earn the right to rest.
When exhaustion becomes the usual pattern, consider the load you are carrying together. A repeated lack of capacity may call for changed arrangements and additional support.
As this final week begins, ask God for wisdom to love with patience when energy is low. Today, offer one manageable expression of care, and make room for the rest that will help you return to each other with greater attention.
Put it into practice
Together
Your challenge
Tell each other honestly how much energy you have today. Agree on one small way to offer care and one way to make room for rest, keeping both people's needs in view.
On your own
To reflect on
- When I am tired, how can I explain my limits without making my spouse feel dismissed?
Prayer focus
“Heavenly Father, meet us in our tiredness and help us respond gently to each other. Give us wisdom to recognise our limits, share our responsibilities and receive rest. Teach us to offer the care we can give with sincerity and patience. In Jesus' name, Amen.”
