Praying for Emotional Safety
Praying with Love
Day 11 of 21 · Tuesday 2 June 2026
Scripture reading
“The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. safe: Heb. set aloft”
Proverbs 18:10, KJV
Teaching lesson
They were talking.
But both were careful.
Careful with what they shared.
Careful with how much they revealed.
Careful not to sound too needy.
Careful not to say the wrong thing.
Careful not to be misunderstood again.
Sometimes marriage becomes unsafe emotionally.
Not because love is gone.
But because the heart has learned to protect itself.
Maybe a feeling was dismissed.
Maybe a fear was laughed at.
Maybe a private struggle was used later in an argument.
Maybe one spouse opened up and the other did not handle it gently.
So the heart started closing.
Little by little.
Emotional safety is important in marriage.
It means I can share my heart without being mocked.
I can admit weakness without being shamed.
I can express hurt without being attacked.
I can be honest without fearing punishment.
I can be vulnerable and still feel loved.
A safe marriage does not mean every conversation is easy.
It means both persons are trying to handle each other’s hearts with care.
Prayer helps us become safer.
It teaches us to listen before correcting.
To comfort before advising.
To understand before defending.
To speak with tenderness.
To protect what our spouse shares with us.
Your spouse’s heart is not something to win against.
It is something to cover.
To cherish.
To handle with prayer.
When emotional safety grows, honesty grows too.
And where honesty grows, intimacy can breathe again.
Together
Your challenge
Ask your spouse, “What helps you feel emotionally safe with me?” Listen carefully and receive the answer with humility.
On your own
To reflect on
- Have I been a safe place for my spouse’s heart?
Prayer focus
“Lord, help me to become emotionally safe for my spouse. Teach me to listen with love, speak with gentleness, and protect the heart that has been entrusted to me. Amen.”
