When Spiritual Connection Is Missing

Addictions

Day 19 of 21 · Wednesday 20 May 2026

Scripture reading

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”

Matthew 18:20, KJV

Teaching lesson

Lack of Spiritual Connection

They both believed in God.

They attended church. They prayed for others. They served when they could.

But at home, they rarely prayed together.

Their spiritual lives existed, but they were not connected.

Sometimes couples can be active in church and still spiritually distant in marriage. They can sit together in the pew but struggle to invite God into their private conversations, decisions, hurts, and hopes.

Spiritual connection does not always have to be long or complicated. It may begin with a short prayer before bed. A scripture shared in the morning. Holding hands and asking God for wisdom. Praying before a difficult conversation.

Jesus reminds us that where two or three are gathered in His name, He is there.

That includes the living room. The kitchen. The car.The bedroom. The quiet moments after a hard day.

When couples pray together, they are reminded that the marriage is not carried by their strength alone.

A marriage becomes stronger when both hearts keep turning toward God.

Together

Your challenge

Pray together for one minute today. Keep it simple and sincere.

On your own

To reflect on

  • Have I allowed spiritual distance to grow between us?

Prayer focus

“Lord, draw us closer to You and closer to each other. Teach us to pray together, seek You together, and build our marriage on Your presence. Amen.”
