Moving from “Mine” to “Ours”
Letting Go of My Money
Day 4 of 7 · Tuesday 24 March 2026
Scripture reading
“Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.”
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, KJV
“And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.”
Acts 4:32, KJV
Teaching lesson
One of the most meaningful shifts Joshua and I experienced in our marriage was moving from a mindset of “my money” to fully embracing “our money.”
That shift did not happen overnight.
It began as we started to build trust with each other in the area of finances. As trust grew, it became easier to move away from individual control and toward shared responsibility.
We realised that unity in marriage requires trust, especially when it comes to something as sensitive as money.
As our mindset changed, so did our approach.
We began setting shared goals, and one of the things that brought us together was our desire to travel the world. Having a common vision gave purpose to how we managed our finances and helped us stay aligned.
This shift also had a deeper impact on our relationship.
Emotionally, it brought us closer. Instead of feeling divided, we felt connected. Spiritually, it strengthened our unity because we were no longer operating as individuals, but as a team.
We also learned to celebrate small wins together, whether it was sticking to a budget, saving toward a goal, or simply making better decisions.
Moving from “mine” to “ours” is not just a financial shift; it is a relational one.
It builds trust, strengthens unity, and creates a shared sense of purpose in marriage.

- Am I building trust with my spouse in financial decisions?
- How can we strengthen our sense of shared purpose in our finances?
