Teaching lesson

One of the areas Joshua and I had to grow in was financial transparency.

In the early stages of our marriage, there were times when we were spending as if we were still single. There was little discussion around finances, and we were not fully aware of each other’s decisions.

Looking back, the issue was not just spending; it was the lack of communication.

We simply did not talk about it.

That silence created a gap. When there is no openness, it becomes difficult to build trust, and even small financial decisions can begin to create distance in a relationship.

Over time, we realised that transparency is essential for unity.

We began developing simple but consistent habits that helped us stay aligned. One of the most impactful changes was sharing regular updates about our finances and committing to a joint monthly budget.

These habits created accountability and strengthened trust between us.

Financial transparency is not about control; it is about openness, honesty, and partnership.

When both individuals feel informed and involved, it creates a sense of security and unity.

We have learned that what is shared openly can be managed wisely together.

Together

Your challenge

Set aside time to review your finances together this week.

Commit to greater openness in one area where communication may be lacking.

On your own

To reflect on

  • Am I fully open and honest about financial decisions with my spouse?
  • Is there anything I am avoiding discussing that could be affecting trust?
  • How can I contribute to greater transparency in our marriage?

Prayer focus

“Lord, help us to walk in honesty and openness with each other.Teach us to communicate clearly and to build trust through transparency.Let our finances be an area that strengthens our unity, not weakens it.In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
