Proverbs 27:9, KJV

Teaching lesson

At the end of the day, she asked, "How was everything?"

He answered, "Fine."

She said her day was fine too.

Nothing was wrong, but very little was shared.

Over time, a marriage can become disconnected not only because important conversations are avoided, but because the small details disappear.

Friends know the little things.

They know which conversation was awkward, what made the other person smile, what felt exhausting, and what unexpected thought stayed with them during the day.

Proverbs speaks of the sweetness found in heartfelt friendship. That sweetness is often built through ordinary sharing, not only through serious discussions.

When we share the small details, we invite our spouse into our daily world.

We are saying, "This may not be urgent, but I want you to know me."

These small exchanges create familiarity and affection. They help a spouse understand why we came home quiet, why something mattered, or why we need encouragement.

But sharing cannot feel like an interrogation.

Warmth opens the heart more effectively than pressure. Ask specific questions instead of only asking, "How was your day?" Try, "What was the best part?" or "Was there a moment that stayed with you?"

Then offer something from your own day too.

Closeness grows through mutual invitation.

Not every detail will be exciting. That is part of friendship. We listen because the person matters, not because every story is remarkable.

A lasting marriage is built through major decisions, but it is lived in ordinary moments.

Do not underestimate the connection created when two people continue sharing those moments with each other.

Let your spouse remain part of the small details.

That is often where everyday friendship lives.

Together

Your challenge

Each of you should share three small details from your day: something that made you smile, something that required energy, and something you found yourself thinking about.

On your own

To reflect on

  • Do I invite my spouse into my everyday world, or do I share only what feels important or necessary?

Prayer focus

“Father, help us remain interested in each other's daily lives. Teach us to share freely, ask thoughtful questions, and listen with warmth. Use the small moments to strengthen friendship and closeness between us. In Jesus' name, Amen.”
