The Need to Be Right
Addictions
Day 7 of 21 · Friday 8 May 2026
Scripture reading
“Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.”
Philippians 2:3, KJV
Teaching lesson
It was a small disagreement.
But neither of them would let it go.
Back and forth they went, explaining, defending, correcting.
Until finally, one of them said quietly,“Do you want to be right or do you want us to be okay?”
That question changed everything.
In many marriages, conflict isn’t about the issue; it’s about control.
The need to prove a point. To win the argument. To be understood without first understanding.
But love doesn’t thrive in competition.
Paul reminds us to value others above ourselves.
Because sometimes, the greatest strength in marriage is not proving your point,It’s choosing peace over pride.
Being right may satisfy your mind. But choosing humility strengthens your relationship.
Every time.
Together
Your challenge
In your next disagreement, focus only on understanding, not correcting.
On your own
To reflect on
- Do I listen to understand or to respond?
Prayer focus
“Pray for humility, patience, and a teachable heart.”
